On Sunday 13th July we shall welcome
to the Parish Eucharist Bishop Alfred Karibongi from the Diocese of Hanuato'o
in Solomon Islands and his wife Esther. Bishop Alfred and Esther will be
visiting our diocese before attending the Lambeth Conference and, given St
Mary le Tower's historic links with Melanesia*, it is particularly appropriate
that Bishop Alfred should preach at the Tower on this occasion.
*You will no doubt remember the fascinating
article by Bob Tostevin about John Coleridge Patteson (1827 - 1871) in the
last issue of Inspire. A memorial, shown on the left, to Bishop John Patteson
stands in the south- west corner of the churchyard of St Mary le Tower.
Patteson developed the Melanesian mission and was appointed its first Bishop
in 1860.
