St Mary-le-Tower has long been recognised as a centre for choral excellence.

Today it continues to offer a traditional style of choral performance with a real emphasis on the involvement of young people. The choir sings six services a week: Matins, Eucharist and Evensong on a Sunday. Evensong on Mondays and Tuesdays (upper voices) and Choral Compline on a Friday.

The choir comprises three sections, boys, girls and adults.  At our Sunday services the boys, girls or (adult) sopranos are joined by the male choral scholars singing the alto, tenor and bass parts. At major festivals and other events, the entire choir combines.

Recently, the choir has appeared on BBC 1’s Songs of Praise and BBC Radio Suffolk and has premiered works by John Brunning and Ben Parry.  The choir tours regularly including Edinburgh, Durham, Paris and USA, as well as recent visits to sing in the Chapel Royal at Hampton Court Palace and Merton College, Oxford.

The choir also gives frequent concert performances including Vivaldi Gloria, Britten Ceremony of Carols and our annual performance of Handel Messiah.

The first recording of the choir since the introduction of girl choristers will be released later this year including music for Advent. (snippet below)
