The start of the new term has seen an exciting expansion of musical services at the Civic Church of St Mary-le-Tower in Ipswich. In addition to the three choral services sung each Sunday the church now joins cathedrals around the country in offering choral worship during the week as well.
On Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.45pm there will be Choral Evening Prayers. This short service, just 20 minutes long, is sung by the choristers of the famous choir at the church. The girl choristers sing on Mondays and the boy choristers on Tuesdays. Director of Music, Stephen Bullamore, said, “I am thrilled that we have been able to expand our choral provision in this way. It gives more performance opportunities to our young people and encourages the raising of standards.” The Vicar, Charles Jenkin, said, “Our new evening worship provides an oasis of calm at the end of a busy day. All are welcome to come to this beautiful service, to unwind as the sound of beautiful music washes over them and to find spiritual nourishment”.
